Facts about Orange - Oren in Malay !

Orange is a big round citrus fruit belonging to the hesperidium family, which means essentially they are also a type of berry containing volatile oil glands in pits. The pulp is made of carpels filled with fluid vesicles making this fruit, soft, juicy and refreshing to taste.  An orange would weigh around 100-150 grams and ripens to fall during autumn after each blossoming spring. The tree is only about 5-8 meters and bears fragrant white flowers.

Oranges have been recorded dating back to 4000 years ago and was first produced in SouthEast Asia, before travelers came to bring them across countries. There are over 600 varieties of orange today and some of the most popular ones are like Valencia, Hamlins, Navels and Blood oranges. Being one of the major sources of Vitamin C, these fruits still keep a list of other nutritional facts unknown to many.

Orange is also a source of a wide array of other vitamins and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium,  Vitamin A and B6.  It also contributes significantly under different types of flavonoids such as Hesperetin, Narigenin,alpha and beta Carotene which are bio-active compounds that acts as antioxidants, anti-inflamattory and immune system modulator. Hence, the ability to slow aging process and provides a younger looking skin by maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin.

Currently, Brazil is the largest producer of oranges in the world and Spain alone has a number of 35 million orange trees. The color of the orange is known to signify, vitality, strength and endurance. Cool Eh..
