Drinking Up your Body!

Ever wonder about the calories you are getting from alcoholic drinks? Surely they aint cal-free but on the other side has quite some value losing out only to fat (Fat contributes 9 cals per gram while alcohol 7 cals per gram).

Nevertheless, my experience tells me a night made of alcoholic drinks such as whisky and wine with food wont hurt that much when you weigh right the next morning. The reason is probably your body got dehydrated a little and so, the pounds dont add up. Check it out yet another day and the pounds are on their way back.
This is especially true if you consume cocktails such as Pina Colada, Irish Cream, Butterscotch and the likes.

Here's a sample of some of the more popular drinks, together with their calorie counts...

1 glass of Bailey's lrish Cream - 468 calories
1 glass of Margarita - 453 calories
1 glass of Martini - 413 calories
1 glass of Pina Colada - 297 calories
1 glass of Vodka Cranberry - 250 calories
1 glass of Rum & cola - 240 calories
1 glass of Screwdriver - 200 calories
1 mug of beer - 150 calories

Chinese Carrot Cake - Lo Bo Gao

Chinese carrot cake is again totally different from the western carrot cake. It is not baked but requires some frying and steaming to be done from the pan and are made from rice flour with milk. The basic ingredients are shreds and cuts of onions, garlic, radish or yam, shrimp and sausages to taste together to be mixed with a ratio of 2 water/milk: 1 rice flour. The trick is to fry the onions and garlics first in order to create the base crunch. Followed by the sausages and the shrimps for their known perfect blend to taste. After you got these, time to mix them with the flour and water or milk ready to be steamed or microwaved until they solidify.

Chinese carrot cakes are one of the favorites and must haves considered as a snack plate or dim sum. They are available almost in any Chinese restaurant outlet that sells Dim Sum (small savory plates of Chinese delicacy). Find and taste one today!

Heard of Chinese Sticky Cake - Nien Gao"?

Chinese Nien Gao is a brown colored steamed sticky cake made from brown sugar, dates and milk. Very different in its texture from traditional sponge or butter cake. It tastes absolutely different and basically are sweet like honey. The nicest ones are soft enough to melt in your mouth and has very tempting fragrant. Touch it through the finger tips and you will know instantly whether it is a good quality one as mostly good ones feels elastically soft and smooth.

Chinese folks usually eat them during Chinese New Year seasons. The way to eat them is to cut them into slices. Another way is to fry them with eggs and usually this needs to be done if the cake has already been cooled or frozen from the fridge. They are part of the Chinese living culture and the story behind its name is upon eating makes us grow taller every year -- (Nien = Year , Gao = Grow Tall). In ancient times, parents make them for the children to eat so to ask them to grow healthy, strong and tall.

Hamster Love is Sweet!

TOOOOO SSSweet .. Hamster Love!!

Hamsters are domestic household small pets. Many people are not able to keep large pets for many reasons and so they could resort to keeping a hamster instead since they are not the type that would make any noise. Hamsters eat almost anything and their droppings are by far one of the easiest to manage. Replace their bedding and everything becomes clean. Hamsters love to stay in large compounds so make sure you give them lots of tracks, trails, wheels and hideout boxes/wood-works to play with in a large enough container. Feed them twice a week and refill their water bottles when the water mark runs low and that should be enough to keep them healthy. Play with your hamster often and you will know just how much of a little sweetheart, a hamster can be.

Benefits of Eating Brown Rice

Brown Rice is 'unpolished rice' because its brownish bran layer is left intact after its husk is removed. Hence it did not go through the complete rice polishing cycle as did white rice. It has better nutritional value compared to white rice from its brown bran layer.

To cook brown rice, you have to soak it for at least half an hour before cooking it the usual way which makes its preparation slightly more difficult and time consuming. However, it is worth it all health factors.

Brown rice is packed with fiber that promotes healthy digestive systems and it has the capability to stabilize blood sugar levels. It also helps fight heart diseases and constipation with its rich counts in a number of vitamins and minerals. High levels of selenium aids in anti-oxidation processes while Iron aids in generation of blood cells.
